cumc youth ministry

-- grow disciples --

CUMC Youth is the ministry of Christ United Methodist Church serving youth in 7th - 12th grade and their families. (Younger kids fall under our Children's Ministry.) We seek to provide a safe environment for our youth to talk and share while growing in their faith in Christ Jesus through fun and fellowship. We seek to develop not only Christian teens, but teens that will remain faithful to Jesus beyond their teenage years.

There are always at least 2 adults who have clearances and meet all of our Safe Sanctuary standards at youth events and on youth communication. In order to participate in any of our youth activities, we ask that you register your child annually.  Here is the online 2024-2025 Youth Registration.  If you can't register online, please call the church office at 215-855-1643.

For any questions about CUMC Youth or to be added to our youth communications, please contact the Youth Director, Nicholas Hill.

  • --Youth Video MinistriesAny young adult age 12 and older is welcome to join this part of our Audio/Video Team. The A/V crew works together to provide a meaningful worship experience for our in-person and online worshippers. Whether we are live-streaming a service, assisting with a musical group rehearsal, or working after hours to update equipment and programming, we are always bringing glory to God through our efforts. You can get involved by training to be video technician. For more information, please contact Jen Hopple.

--Serve as Liturgist: Liturgists lead multiple times throughout the service including the Call to Worship, the Opening Hymn announcement (not singing!), Opening Prayer, Prayers of the People, and the Lord's Prayer. The Prayers of the People is the time for you to lead the congregation in a prayer that you have written before the service. Pastor Zach and Pastor Tawny are always happy to provide help with writing or checking over the prayer throughout the week. You can find a more detailed description here. You can sign up to serve on the Volunteer Sign Ups page.

--Serve as Scripture Reader: Scripture readers are responsible for only the Scripture reading each week. This is emailed each Thursday, and a print copy is provided at the lectern to be used during the service. The pastor will announce your name at the appropriate time. You will come to the lectern, announce and read the scripture, and then end with the response (typically, "This is the Word of God for us." to which the congregation will reply "Thanks be to God."). You can sign up to serve on the Volunteer Sign Ups page.

--Serve as Acolyte: Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to assist during worship as acolytes. Acolytes are the volunteers who light the candles in worship as well as assist with communion and offering. You can sign up to serve on the Volunteer Sign Ups page.

  • --Confirmation (7th & 8th Grade)Students are eligible to begin Confirmation in 7th grade to learn about their faith. There is an emphasis on establishing and deepening their personal relationship with Jesus, church history, our creeds, the meaning of worship and an education about United Methodism. They participate in a retreat and other faith-building activities. Confirmation spans two school years. During a special worship service in June, students who complete the program may declare their faith and enter into membership within the congregation.

--Senior High Youth Sunday School (9th - 12th Grade)This Sunday school class explores the Bible and engages in conversations of ideas about God, the call to social justice, and the relevance of the Christian faith, as well as a Methodist approach to encountering Christ, being disciples of Jesus and serving others.

  • --CUMC Youth Group Monthly Meeting: CUMC Youth meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month for dinner, devotion and prayer, and fun! Dinner is often provided by various members of our congregation and has ranged from baked pasta to pizza to chicken. Our devotions and activities are informed by the interests and experiences of the youth in the program each year, so that everyone can find something relevant and enjoyable.

--Drop-In Hours: On the 4th Friday of each month, the youth area is open for drop-in hours. Youth are free to come and go as their schedule allows and take part in an informal time of fellowship. This can include board games, video games, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, or just sitting and talking together. This time is largely youth-driven, with adults present to ensure safety and assist with activities as needed.

We always encourage friends and visitors at youth group! Anyone is welcome to come and see what CUMC Youth is like--if you enjoy it, we'd love to see you back!

  • --Youth Summer Mission Trip: Prior to Covid, CUMC Youth took a mission trip for about 1 week each summer. We are excited to restart the mission trip program in summer of 2025! Our youth will be traveling to Scranton to assist with home repair and reconstruction to improve safety and accessibility. Past mission trip locations have been Crisfield, Maryland and New England area work camps.  Our last trip, in the summer of 2019, was to Blue Rose Mission in Mansfield, Ohio. This mission trip is a wonderful time for our youth to come together and serve while team building at the same time! Registration for the 2025 Summer Mission Trip is now closed. Stay tuned for pictures and testimonies!

--Trunk-Or-TreatBefore Halloween, people from the congregation and preschool decorate their cars and hand out candy to create a safe trick or treating experience in our parking lot. CUMC Youth host a games station each year at Trunk or Treat and help add extra fun and excitement to the experience for everyone! Our 2025 Trunk-Or-Treat will be held on Sunday, October 19th. Registration info will be available on our Events page!

--Santa Breakfast: Santa comes to Fellowship Hall! Held on a Saturday in December, children and their families can come and have pancakes and sausage, talk with Santa and have their photo taken with him. CUMC Youth arrive prior to the breakfast for a time of food and fellowship, followed by training and a prayer, before serving each of the families in attendance and adding to the Christmas cheer already here! Registration info will be available on our Events page!

--Spaghetti Dinner: CUMC Youth really shine during our annual spaghetti dinner! Held on a Saturday in February, this is the yearly fundraiser for the summer mission trip, and youth do a large part of the work, including decoration, food prep, taking orders, serving food, and clean up. Through their efforts in front of house, the church fellowship hall is transformed into a classy, restaurant-style setting where you can come, sit back, and enjoy, as your dinner is served! The youth traditionally gather at Applebee's at the end of the night, once all is cleaned up, to celebrate a job well done. Registration info will be available on our Events page!

--EGGstravaganza Egg HuntOur EGGstravaganza Egg Hunt is not your typical egg hunt; small egg hunts are run every half an hour from 1-4 PM. Kids will get a chance to hunt for eggs and participate in some other awesome egg relays and a craft around the church lawn. CUMC Youth help by hiding the eggs for each hunt and providing cheers (and help finding eggs when needed!) for all of the participants.  Our 2026 EGGstravaganza Egg Hunt will take place on Sunday, March 29th. Registration info will be available on our Events page!
