Missions at Christ UMC

-- Serve others --

Christ UMC is very active in missions.  We support various missions both in service and financially.  We try to offer a variety of missions for service and financial support.  As a church we strive to give back approximately twenty percent to supporting other organizations.  We also offer a Mission of the Month program in which our missions committee selects a mission for the month and you can donate through the church offering plate or online giving to support that month's mission.

Missions we support

Christ UMC has regularly-budgeted missions that we support each year in addition to our Mission of the Month. You can view our Missions Directory for more information about the missions our church is supporting!

Service opportunities

We have several ongoing service opportunities.  There are more detailed descriptions for some of these items in our Missions Directory.

Service Projects

  • Cooking for Manna: Once a month a cooking team gets together and makes meals for our local soup kitchen/food pantry.
  • Code Blue: Located in Lansdale, PA, the shelter provides a warm and safe place for homeless men to find refuge when the wind chill drops below 20 degrees.  We have many church members who are actively involved in the project.

  • The Mustard Seed: Founded in 2014, our church vegetable garden is located on the grass at the end of the CUMC parking lot. Vegetables are donated to Manna, helping people from our area to get healthy food to feed their families. In 2024, we picked and delivered an amazing 600+ pounds of vegetables!

Collections

  • Non-Perishable Food for Manna: The fourth Sunday of each month, we host a food drive for Manna on Main Street. You can place donations in the Missions shelf, located to the left of the narthex, on other weeks
  • Giving Tree: At Christmas our giving tree benefits local families and children in need. You choose a tag, purchase the requested gift, and return it to the church, wrapped and ready to be opened!

Help build hope

In February 2025, we addressed the plight of those in our conference unable to afford housing. Help Build Hope (HBH) provides the walls for a duplex to be erected in Reading by Habitat For Humanity. We work together with Bethel Hill UMC to accomplish this, providing about a third of the workers and finances!

The building phase will took place the first weekend in April, supported by our generous prayers and finances to help it succeed! To see exactly how this mission is accomplished, please watch the attached video of last years build (from lumber delivery at the Bethel Hill UMC parking lot to the delivery of the walls to Reading)!

Thank you for your support and remember, You can HELP BUILD HOPE!
