christ's Kids Ministry

-- grow disciples --

At Christ UMC, our active Children's Ministry - Christ's Kids - is geared towards ages birth - 6th grade.  Older kids then fall under our Youth Ministry.  There are always at least 2 adults who have clearances and meet all of our Safe Sanctuary standards at Christ's Kids events.

In order to participate in any of our children's activities, we ask that you register your child annually.  Here is the online 2024-2025 Christ's Kids Registration.  If you can't register online, there are also paper forms available at the church to use when you attend an event.

For any questions about our Children's Ministry please contact Pastor Tawny Bernhardt.  To sign up for our “Christ’s Kids Ministry Activities” emails, contact the church office.

  • --NurseryChrist UMC offers a staffed nursery during the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services, as well as during Sunday school at 9:45 so that parents of young children can participate in Sunday morning activities. Children, birth through 4 years old, can be dropped off and picked up in room 130, in the preschool hallway. We have regular nursery caregivers that work with a volunteer team--all caregivers and volunteers have appropriate clearances through the UMC SafeSanctuary Policy

An unstaffed nursery is available in room 120-122 for those who would prefer to keep their infants with them on Sunday morning and need space to feed or move with their child. Changing tables are found in the bathrooms closest to the sanctuary.

--Christ's Kids Artwork Corner: Each week, there is a Christ Kid's Artwork Corner prompt in the bulletin and announced at both services. This prompt helps our children connect to the week's scripture by drawing a way they can live out the message in their daily life.

--Serve as AcolyteOur children are encouraged to assist during worship as acolytes. Acolytes are the volunteers who light the candles in worship as well as assist with communion and offering. Children must be tall enough to reach the altar table. You can sign up to serve on the Volunteer Sign Ups page.

--Children's Worship (throughout the school year)During the 11:00 AM service, children age 4 years through 5th grade are dismissed before the scripture lesson to participate in our children’s worship experience where they experience a children’s Scripture, sermon, prayer, and offering time. Children can be picked up in room 127 after the service is over. On the 1st Sunday of the month, children return to the worship service before communion. Children are encouraged to take communion at the discretion of their parents/guardians.

--Children's Sermon (during the summer months): During both services, children of all ages (including some of our Friendly Seniors!) are invited to gather at the front of the Sanctuary for an age-appropriate lesson based on the scripture and sermon topic for the day.

  • At Christ UMC, we believe that we never stop learning about who God is and who we are as God’s people. Sunday school is an opportunity for people of all ages to spend time studying the Bible and getting to know God, at developmentally appropriate levels. Sunday school starts at 9:45 AM.

We offer 4 different classes for elementary age kids:

--4 years old (by Sept 1st of that year) and Kindergarten

      --1st and 2nd grade

      --3rd and 4th grade

      --5th and 6th grade

  • --Precious Angels: Ages 3 1/2 through 5 years old. This name accurately describes our youngest singers. Our rehearsal time is on Sunday mornings from 9:20-9:40 a.m. and includes singing as well as some time with instruments and movement. This choir sings approximately every other month in worship.

--Cherub Choir: Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Children learn songs that praise God and teach them God’s love. In this ensemble, children will also get a chance to play melody bells to accompany familiar hymns. They meet on Wednesday evenings, from 6:00-6:30 PM.

--Jesus Jammerz: Kindergarten through 2nd grade. They work as a team and use body percussion, movement, and percussion instruments for “jammin’” to Christian music. It is a lively group and a different style than any other group in our music ministries. No singing is done in this choir and no prior musical experience is needed, just a love of music, movement, fun, and Jesus! The group meets on Wednesdays, 5:15-5:55 PM

--Carol Choir: 3rd through 6th grade. This choir is open to all children in 3rd through 6th who wish to praise God with their voices. This ensemble begins part singing, sings a variety of anthems, hymns, and praise songs, and offers a musical, as the morning message, in worship. They sing in worship once a month and may also occasionally sing in the community. This choir meets on Wednesdays from 5:55-6:30 PM.

--Melody Chimes: 3rd through 6th grade. All children are welcome to participate. Melody Chimes offers their music in worship as a way to glorify God with instruments. The ability to read music is helpful, but not required. They ring in worship once a month and meet for rehearsals on Wednesday evenings, 5:15-5:55 PM.

  • --Vacation Bible CampEach July, we offer a week-long Vacation Bible Camp where children enjoy an interactive, energizing, Bible-based good time as they are called together to serve God. Children 4 years through 5th grade are invited to join the fun—and it’s absolutely FREE! Sixth graders and older are welcome to serve as volunteers, making a lasting impact on young campers' lives. They’ll enjoy engaging Bible stories, hands-on activities, music, and games, all while growing in their faith and forming new friendships. Our 2025 theme, "Road Trip!", will take kids on a journey of faith, discovery, and adventure! Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity for your child to experience a week full of faith-filled excitement from July 14th through July 18th! Registration info will be available on our Events page!

--Trunk-Or-TreatBefore Halloween, people from the congregation and preschool decorate their cars and hand out candy to create a safe trick or treating experience in our parking lot. Families can vote for their favorite decorations, visit our games booth, and grab a snack while they're here! This is a great event for families, and trick-or-treating is open to all. Our 2025 Trunk-Or-Treat will be held on Sunday, October 19th. Registration info will be available on our Events page!

--EGGstravaganza Egg HuntYou are invited to hop, hop, hop on over for our EGGstravangaza Egg Hunt! Small egg hunts will run from 1-4 PM. Kids will get a chance to hunt for eggs and participate in some other awesome egg relays and a craft around the church lawn.

This is a family-friendly FREE event for kids of every age with an egg hunt, meaningful craft, and fun-filled activities. Bring your basket and a few friends! The EGGstravangaza is especially great for children who are overwhelmed by the large crowds at traditional egg hunts. There is NO Easter Bunny at this event. Every child will get to collect eggs. We anticipate that all this fun will take about 30 minutes. Adults are asked to stay and cheer on their children! Registration is required.

Our 2026 EGGstravaganza Egg Hunt will take place on Sunday, March 29th. Registration info will be available on our Events page!

--Good Friday EventJoin us for our Annual Good Friday event to hear the story of Holy Week, leading up to Easter through story, activities, and crafts. Each year we explore some of the themes behind Holy Week, join in prayer, and share a snack together. This event is open for all children 4 years--6th grade, and children are separated into age groups for parts of the event. Registration info will be available on our Events page!
