Christ's Kids Ministry

At Christ UMC we have an active Children's Ministry we call Christ's Kids.  Christ's Kids programming is geared towards ages birth - 6th grade.  Older kids then fall under our Youth Ministry.  All of our volunteers that work with the children have clearances and meet all of our Safe Sanctuary standards.

In order to participate in any of our children's activities, we ask that you register your child annually.  Here is the online 2023-24 Christ's Kids Registration.  If you can't register online, there are also paper forms available at the church to use when you attend an event.

For any questions about our Children's Ministry please contact Pastor Tawny Bernhardt at tawny.bernhardt@cumclansdale.org.

  • Trunk or Treat

    October 22, 4-5:30 PM

Join us in the church parking lot for a free, fun, and safe way to Trick or Treat! Your family will enjoy visiting the 20+ decorated trunks, playing games, and collecting candy! There is no need to register ahead of time. We hope to see you there!

We are also looking for volunteers from the congregation and preschool to host trunks and volunteer at the welcome table. If you are available to help, please sign up here.

  • Nursery

Christ UMC offers two nurseries.  A staffed nursery is available so that parents can attend worship at 8:30 and 11 AM and Sunday school at 9:45 AM. Children, birth through 4 years old, can be dropped off and picked up as needed throughout the morning. An age appropriate lesson and activity will be taught during the Sunday School hour. All volunteers have appropriate clearances.

An unstaffed nursery is available in Room 120, across from the cafe. A speaker is available for families to listen to the service while utilizing the glider and quiet space. Adults must supervise their children while in this space.

  • Sunday School

Sunday School classes meet each Sunday from 9:45 to 10:45.

This year our Pre-K through 6th Grade kids will be using the Celebrate Wonder curriculum to study the Bible. You can register your child online or at drop off. Children have the opportunity to participate in a Christmas pageant in December, if they are interested. Classes are broken down by grade level.

  • Children's Worship

During the 11 am service each Sunday, children age 4 through 5th grades are dismissed from the Sanctuary prior to the sermon for Children's Worship.  It is a time for our younger congregants to hear God's Word in ways that they can connect to their lives.  They will engage in worship through passing the peace, receiving an offering, hearing a children's sermon, and praying together. Parents pick their children up after the service is over. On the first Sunday of the month, children return to the sanctuary to sit with their families for communion.

  • Kids' Choirs

There are many opportunities for you child to be involved in a choir.

    Precious Angels

This choir is for ages 3 1/2 through 5 years old. They meet on Sunday mornings from 9:20-9:40 am in the preschool wing. Parents are invited to attend the 8:30 worship service and children can be dismissed to participate at 9:20. If you attend the 11 am service, you are welcome to simply arrive at the classroom at 9:20.

    Jesus Jammerz

This group is for children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. They use body percussion, percussion instruments and movement to express the music they are 'jammin' to. They meet Wednesdays 5:15-6 pm and participate regularly in worship at both the 8:30 am service and the 11am service which is streamed online.

    Cherub Choir

This choir is for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. They sing and ring colored Melody Bells and sing in worship every other month. They meet on Wednesday evenings, 6:00-6:30pm.

    Melody Chimes

Children that are in 3rd - 6th grade can participate in this ensemble and play Melody Chimes, which is a precursor to handbells. You do not need to know how to read music to participate in this group. They meet on Wednesday evenings, 5:15-5:55 pm.

    Carol Choir

This choir is for children in 3rd through 6th grade. They sing in worship once a month, begins singing part music, participates in the Christmas collage, Christmas Eve 6 PM service, and occasionally sings in the community. They meet on Wednesday evenings at 5:55-6:30 pm.

  • Service

There are two major areas our older kids (5th through 8th grade) can serve.

Acolyte - Kids can sign up to serve as acolyte at either first or second service.  Our acolytes light the candles, assist with communion and the offering as well as baptisms.  There is an acolyte training in the fall and new acolytes are initially paired up with an older acolyte to shadow them and learn the role.  There is an annual acolyte outing to thank those that serve in this capacity.

Children's Worship Helper - Our sixth graders can assist our Children's Worship leaders each week.

Please contact Pastor Tawny Bernhardt if you are interested in serving in either of these roles.

  • Annual Events

Vacation Bible School (Kid's Camp) - VBS is open to children from age 4 (by September 1) through 5th grade and includes daily snacks, crafts, science, games, songs, Bible stories and more! It is held for one week each summer. Check our Events and Sign Ups page for more details and registration link. Registration will open April 1st.

Trunk or Treat - The Sunday prior to Halloween, church members and preschool families park in the back of the CUMC parking lot, decorate their cars and hand out candy and small trinkets to children who come by to Trick-or-Treat.  If the weather is not cooperating we will move it inside and have a "Trick-or-Treat Trail". This is a great event for families and trick-or-treating is open to all.

Eggstravaganza- Prior to Easter, we will hold our third annual Easter Egg Hunt. We offer small group hunts through timed sign ups to allow children who are overwhelmed by the huge crowds at other public egg hunts to have a fun time where everyone gets to leave with eggs! Stay for games and crafts as well!
