Christ's Kids Ministry

At Christ UMC we have an active Children's Ministry we call Christ's Kids.  Christ's Kids programming is geared towards ages birth - 6th grade.  Older kids then fall under our Youth Ministry.  All of our volunteers that work with the children have clearances and meet all of our Safe Sanctuary standards.

In order to participate in any of our children's activities, we ask that you register your child annually.  Here is the online 2022-23 Christ's Kids Registration.  If you can't register online, there are also paper forms available at the church to use when you attend an event.

For any questions about our Children's Ministry please contact Pastor Tawny Bernhardt at tawny.bernhardt@cumclansdale.org.

  • Nursery

Christ UMC offers two nurseries.  A staffed nursery is available so that parents can attend worship at 8:30 and 11 AM and Sunday school at 9:45 AM. Children, birth through 4 years old, can be dropped off and picked up as needed throughout the morning. An age appropriate lesson and activity will be taught during the Sunday School hour. All volunteers have appropriate clearances.

An unstaffed nursery is available in Room 120, across from the cafe.

  • Sunday School

Sunday School classes meet each Sunday from 9:45 to 10:45.

This year our Pre-K through 6th Grade kids will be using the Deep Blue curriculum to study the Bible. You can register your child online or at drop off. Children have the opportunity to participate in a Christmas pageant in December, if they are interested. Classes are broken down by grade level.

  • Children's Worship

During the 11 am service each Sunday, children age 4 through 5th grades are dismissed from the Sanctuary prior to the sermon for Children's Worship.  It is a time for our younger congregants to hear God's Word in ways that they can connect to their lives.  They will engage in worship through passing the peace, receiving an offering, hearing a children's sermon, and praying together. Parents pick their children up after the service is over. On the first Sunday of the month, children return to the sanctuary to sit with their families for communion.

  • Kids' Choirs

There are many opportunities for you child to be involved in a choir.

    Precious Angels

This choir is our youngest choir for children 3-5 years old. This choir is directed by Sherry Harris and meets on Sunday mornings starting at 9:25am in the purple preschool room. (Due to COVID restrictions, this group will resume when able.)

    Jesus Jammerz

This group is for Children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. They use body percussion, percussion instruments and movement to express the music they are "jammin'" to each time. It is a lively group and a different style than any other group in our music ministries.  No singing is done in this choir and no prior musical experience is needed.  Just a love of music, movement and Jesus!  Nanci Landes leads the motion when they meet on Wednesdays from 5:15-5:55pm in the narthex.

    Cherub Choir

This group is for Children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Children learn songs that praise God and teach them God’s love. In this ensemble, children will also get a chance to play melody bells to accompany familiar hymns. They meet on Wednesday evenings, from 6:00 - 6:30pm, in Room 123 (Reichley Room). Directed by Katie Campbell.

    Melody Chimes

Children that are in 3rd through 6th grade can participate in this ensemble and play melody chimes, which is a precursor to handbells.  They work together to praise Jesus and express His word through their music.  The ability to read music is helpful, but not required.  This choir is directed by Sherry Harris and they meet Wednesday evening from 5:15-5:55pm in the Fellowship Hall Rooms 101-105.

    Carol Choir

This choir is for children in 3rd through 6th grades.  This ensemble begins part singing and sings a variety of anthems, hymns and praise songs.  These children participate in a Junior Choir Festival every 3 years with several area churches.  They also occasionally sing in the community.  This choir is directed by Sherry Harris and they meet on Wednesday evenings from 5:55- 6:30pm in the Choir Room.

  • Service

There are two major areas our older kids (5th through 8th grade) can serve.

Acolyte - Kids can sign up to serve as acolyte at either first or second service.  Our acolytes light the candles, assist with communion and the offering as well as baptisms.  There is an acolyte training in the fall and new acolytes are initially paired up with an older acolyte to shadow them and learn the role.  There is an annual acolyte outing to thank those that serve in this capacity.

Children's Worship Helper - Our sixth graders can assist our Children's Worship leaders each week.

Please contact Pastor Tawny Bernhardt if you are interested in serving in either of these roles.

  • Annual Events

Vacation Bible School (Kid's Camp) - VBS is open to children from age 4 (by September 1) through 5th grade and includes daily snacks, crafts, science, games, songs, Bible stories and more! It is held for one week each summer. Check our Events and Sign Ups page for more details and registration link. Registration will open April 1st.

Trunk or Treat - The Sunday prior to Halloween, church members and preschool families park in the back of the CUMC parking lot, decorate their cars and hand out candy and small trinkets to children who come by to Trick-or-Treat.  If the weather is not cooperating we will move it inside and have a "Trick-or-Treat Trail". This is a great event for families and trick-or-treating is open to all.

Eggstravaganza- Prior to Easter, we will hold our third annual Easter Egg Hunt. We offer small group hunts through timed sign ups to allow children who are overwhelmed by the huge crowds at other public egg hunts to have a fun time where everyone gets to leave with eggs! Stay for games and crafts as well!
