Getting to Know Christ Church

Getting to Know Christ Church   is a 6-week course for persons who want to get to know Christ Church, just as the name implies!  Whether you are new to the Christian faith, new to the community, or even a long-time United Methodist wanting to transfer to this new congregation, we encourage you to enroll in the Getting to Know Christ Church”  course.

Offered in the Fall & Spring of each year, classes meet in the pastor’s office.  The course affords persons new to the congregation the opportunity to gather with persons who are relatively new, too.  Each week, students meet members, officers, & church staff to learn about the ministries in which they participate or lead, activities in which you or your family members may choose to participate in the future.

Talks, information packets, & video presentations also address the history of Christ UMC, as well as information about United Methodism – our history, doctrine, & organization.  There are no long, boring membership lectures.  Considerable attention is devoted to responding to the questions which students bring about faith, the church, & United Methodism.

Participation in the class can be done by attending all six classes at once, or spread over time to accommodate personal & family schedules.  For example:  it is common for someone to be present for classes 1, 2, 5, & 6, in the Spring, then make up 3 & 4 next Fall.

You may sign up for the class after being here a few weeks, or a few months, or a few years.  We find that persons often spend a good amount of time with us before uniting with the congregation.  They get acclimated to the faith community by worshiping regularly, attending Christian education classes, joining a group like the choir &/or serving in a mission activity.

The Getting to Know Christ Churchcourse is one more logical step in becoming acquainted with one another. This more laid back attitude values persons becoming new members, but does not place undue pressure on officially joining the church.
