SOME: So Others Might Eat

SOME: So Others Might Eat
, is an organization in our nation's capital that strives “to meet people's immediate needs and to help them overcome the barriers that keep them homeless and destitute.” SOME was originally founded in 1970 by an interfaith group of priests, ministers, and lay people as a soup kitchen. Today more than 900 meals a day are served to the homeless. But feeding people's stomachs is only part of what they do.

In the years that followed its opening, SOME developed education, life skills, and job-training programs to empower the poor to keep themselves out of homelessness and poverty. SOME also provides counseling, case management, rehabilitative services, and community development to those in need.

Christ Church has a special connection to SOME that you may not know about. During the two mission trips in 2001 and 2002 the youth worked at SOME, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the homeless of Washington, D.C. More importantly, the youth were asked to spend time with those eating at SOME. They were asked to talk to them about Christ and to just “hang out” with them to brighten their day. That is what makes SOME so special. It is committed to nurturing the human dignity of all those that seek help there. Please help them serve the Lord by serving others. Please donate this month so others might eat. If you would like more information about SOME: So Others Might Eat visit www.some.org.
